Surveys remain a central data source for empirical social research. My textbook on data science in social research, published in February 2026, supports students and instructors at universities and higher education institutions with numerous examples from survey research.

High demands are placed on meaningful data analysis. It involves appropriate modeling, the suitable selection of statistical methods and algorithms, the assessment of model quality and validity, and the control of measurement errors and biases—such as those arising from datasets affected by selective non-response.
